Warren Prairie – New Camera Lens (Part 1)

I recently bought a new lens for my camera, a Canon 24mm 2.8. I wanted to test it out so my daughter and I drove out to one of our favorite spots, Warren Prairie. We love seeing the wildflowers growing out at Warren Prairie. I used to have a 50mm (nifty 50) but can’t find it anywhere. The 50mm was a bit too zoomed in for me but I had some neat photos from it. I bought this 24mm lens because I needed a wide format lens. The autofocus on my wide Sigma lens has stopped working and I can’t manually get the focus right. I’m not that good at f-stop settings but hopefully using this lens I’ll get better at it. I usually just leave the lens set at the widest setting and really forget about it. I mainly just worry with setting my focal length and ISO. I’m really not that good at the camera settings stuff but do usually stay off auto.

We did catch a few wildflowers on this trip. We’re already planning our next trip out to Warren Prairie for more wildflowers. The light was a bit harsh and not the best time of the day for photography as we had to go in the middle of the day. In a lot of my pictures I took there is motion blur in the photos from the high afternoon winds. Due to the wind and harsh light I had my shutter speed up pretty high. I’ll post a few of my photos below then hope to get some of AG’s photos on here for a part 2 tomorrow.

We come across a bunch of these grasshoppers.
I like this camera lens but my trouble is keeping my hand away from the lens! Notice my finger in the bottom right of this photo. This has also lead to several smudges from fingerprints on the lens. I guess I’m too used to my long Sigma (or bigma)!
This is my favorite photo from the day. I really like the depth of field I get from the prime 24mm here.
