Pollinator Garden Update

I’ll update on our pollinator patch but first let’s look at some other parts of what’s growing.

Indigo Rose Tomatoes

My Indigo Rose Tomatoes are ripening now. So far I’ve not crazy about the flavor as I thought I’d be. They have been very mild in flavor. I was expecting it to have a little more flavor being blue like they are. I talked to my co-worker this morning since she’s growing some of these and her comments were the same. Also the size is a bit off for me. I like a good cherry tomato you can snack on or a slicer I can make sandwich out of. These are bigger than a cherry but really too small for a slicer. I’ve just snacked on them outside but like I say it’s not my favorite way to eat a tomato!

Callaway Crabapples

A couple years ago I planted a fruit orchard with 9 trees. One of those trees is the Callaway Crabapple. I’ll post more on this orchard soon. It has been the only tree in the orchard that has put on any fruit so far. It had a few fruits last year and this year has a few more I believe. I’m looking forward to watching these ripen and see if the deer like them!

Pollinator Garden

My pollinator garden is starting to bloom now with the buckwheat in that mix putting on flowers now. I’ve grown buckwheat before as a cover crop and typically it blooms in a few weeks. It’ll be interesting to see how the other plants in this mix bloom next! This pollinator patch looks a bit messy but I think it’s going to be beautiful as it blooms. This is the Warm Season Pollinator Mix from Green Cover Seed plus a few extra sunflowers added in (we really enjoy sunflowers) I’m going to be planting a few rows of sunflowers around the edges of this plot to have more sunflowers this summer. I’m looking at planting Green Cover’s Cool Season Pollinators soon to continue the blooms into the fall.

I want to say thanks for stopping by to read my ramblings. To say thanks more I have a few free phone wallpapers here.
