In The SEARK – Guest Post: Keith Wallis

One goal I have developed with this blog project is I want to make a big deal of the beauty we have right here in Southeast Arkansas. I love a trip to the mountains but like I say, “there’s just something special to me with muddy water and Cypress trees”. This is home for me. When thinking of this idea there is no one I think of more than Keith Wallis. Keith operates Poor Folk Productions here from Monticello, AR. As part of his business he cooks delicious BBQ meals a couple days a week at Wallis’s BBQ Blues Shack with his focus on building community around Tuesdays. Wallis, as he’s known by most, is a friend to many people and a champion of all things and especially people here in Southeast Arkansas. Please check out Keith Wallis, Wallis’s BBQ Blues Shack, and Poor Folk Productions on Facebook.

I’ve watched as Keith has developed his craft over the past and am beyond thankful he agreed to share his gift over here as part of the nonsense I like to call my blog. I need to get back over to his BBQ business soon. I don’t eat out for lunch often but find when I do I must order two entrees at Wallis’s BBQ Blues Shack with my meal because I can’t ever seem to decide on one item.

A few days ago Keith posted on Facebook a batch of photos along with a story of his day in the delta. I had already spoken to him about doing a guest post sometime and when I saw this I thought it would be perfect. We’ll have to do it again soon, as I prepared this post I saw another recent trip he made to Cut-Off Creek. Thanks for sharing your photographs and written description friend!

Keith Wallis: Rich in both natural beauty and history alike, the south Arkansas Delta tells the story of successful wildlife management, as well as properly showcasing a very old and time-honored way of life. With incredible attractions such as Merrisach Lake, Arkansas Post National Memorial, Pendleton on the Arkansas River, Trusten Holder Wildlife Management Area, and Overflow National Wildlife Refuge; the southeast corner of the State can easily make a case for being the most sought after and valuable area in Arkansas with regard to environmental conservation and outdoor recreation.
