I’m sure like me you’ve seen a bunch of posts on social media about viewing the Northern Lights here in the south.
I had seen posts about it coming but everything I read said it might be visible after midnight. I had friends and family mention it to me but I just told them I doubted the chances of seeing it here in Southeast Arkansas and I was tired and ready for bed on Friday night! My family and some friends of my daughter’s went to a community event then came back home around 9:00 pm. My daughter’s friends were spending the night with her. I went out back to look at things around the back deck and was out there for several minutes before looking up and my thought was, “WOW, what a scene!” The Northern Lights were visible from my home in Southeast Arkansas! I hollered for the girls and my wife. We watched the scene for a bit then I went for my camera in my truck. I wish now I had taken a timelapse. We ended up driving out to Lake Monticello for a better view and found a pretty big crowd of others out there viewing the scene. We watched it from the lake then drove back home where I took few more pictures. It soon ended as I took these photos. The news reports were saying there was a chance again the next night but it did not happen. I was a bit disappointed because my son was at a friend’s birthday party Friday night and missed it. I really hoped to be able to view it with him too.

I’ve always wanted to see and photograph the Northern Lights but never dreamed I’d be viewing the scene from my back porch in Southeast Arkansas! We even went on a family vacation last summer to Alaska and did not get to see it but after reading on it I found we were not there in the optimal season for it. While up there it was still daylight at bed time. It was wierd to me because it would be “dusky” light but I’d look at my cell phone and it would be later in time.
We’ve had some treats here in Arkansas recently. First, we were able to view a total Eclipse and now the Northern Lights!
Thanks so much for stopping by to read my ramblings! I have a few requests:
- Please consider subscribing if you’d like to be notified of when I post again.
- Share with a friend.
These three items help me to know if I am doing this right. A comment (good or bad) helps me to know what’s working and what’s not.
Thanks!

Michael, I’m so glad you got to see the northern lights! Your pictures are beautiful! I was in Branson on Friday night but me and my friends couldn’t see it when we drove out to an opening. Then I hoped to see it Saturday night after I got home but it was either cloudy or I missed it. I was so disappointed! Hopefully me and Nicolas will get another chance to see the northern lights one day! I hope you have a good week! Love you!
