I’ve mentioned how I enjoy taking photographs when I’m out and about. It has hit me recently that I miss a photograph opportunity by not looking around me (forest for the trees kind of moment)
The other day I shared a photograph of a mushroom I took at Warren Prairie. It was right next to the side of the road where I parked heading to take pictures of wildflowers. I almost missed it but the opportunity became my favorite photograph of the day.
The opportunity for a mushroom photograph hit me more recently. I was walking around my yard and as usual was in a rush trying to get yard work done. I looked down and a mushroom on the path next to my house caught my eye. I went and got my camera from my truck and returned to take a photograph even though I was in my usual hurry. When I came back I could not find the mushroom at first. After wandering around a few minutes looking down I finally found it again. You see, if not because of the loose gravel along this path around my house and because I stumble a bit I usually would not walk slow enough looking down and catch the sight of a simple mushroom.
Today as I worked in my yard again I noticed we must have kicked it because the mushroom was gone. I’m thankful to have been looking down and seeing this sight!
Next week, I’ll share another photograph I took from my backyard. If you enjoy this type of post or don’t please leave me a comment!
Thanks so much for stopping by to read my ramblings! I have a few requests:
- Please consider subscribing if you’d like to be notified of when I post again.
- Share with a friend.
These three items help me to know if I am doing this right. A comment (good or bad) helps me to know what’s working and what’s not.
Thanks!

-Michael Gilbert
