Forestry CDEs – Going Back Twenty Years

The other day I got a text from my high school Agriculture/FFA Advisor, Mr. Perry Richard. He told me a recent competition the forestry CDE team from my high school, Harmony Grove in Camden recently participated in. This is a national 4-H competition held in Weston, WV each year and one I competed in over 20 years ago (that’s hard to believe). Way to go team from Harmony Grove in Camden, AR going all the way to West Virginia and placing fifth!

I remember the drive out to Weston, WV is beautiful but a long one! Here’s a photo from 2003:

If you read my story you will see how forestry CDEs played a huge roll in my life. I learned so much from the man on the far left of this picture, Mr. Perry Richard. Hanging in my shed now is my old Biltmore tree measuring stick. Forestry CDE is where I learned I needed glasses. I just could not see the tops of the trees to identify them! Again, it’s hard to believe its been over 20 years.

I thought I had another picture from these days but I cannot seem to find it (darn)!

Again, congrats to the team from Harmony Grove! And thanks Mr. Richard for teaching us so much (and putting up with us)!

Thanks so much for stopping by to read my ramblings! I have a few requests:

  • Please consider subscribing if you’d like to be notified of when I post again.
  • Share with a friend.

These three items help me to know if I am doing this right. A comment (good or bad) helps me to know what’s working and what’s not.

Thanks!
