Last Sunday evening I wanted to try for two different photo setups. First I wanted to try to get a hummingbird photograph then I wanted to fly my drone for the first time in a while for a sunset photograph.
I setup for a few minutes to try for a hummingbird photo but it was clouding up pretty fast. I actually posted this photograph Monday but it was in a different setup. Since it was clouding up I decided to go ahead and try for the drone flight which I haven’t tried in a while. I really did not know what I’d get but it ended up being a neat flight. There was a pretty severe thunderstorm moving into our area. We lost power shortly after this and the damage from the storm was pretty numerous to many of my friends.

I ended up just recording video from my DJI Mavic Pro drone then exporting the video frames to pictures using photoshop. There’s probably a better way to do all this but it’s all I could figure out in the moment. From my back porch if I get high enough in altitude I can see Lake Monticello so I was able to watch the storm from about 200-300 feet with the drone. I watched it come in for a few minutes then decided I better go inside. As I was landing the drone the wind started picking up pretty bad. I did not know if I’d get it down in time!
Thanks so much for stopping by to read my ramblings! I have a few requests:
- Please consider subscribing if you’d like to be notified of when I post again.
- Share with a friend.
These three items help me to know if I am doing this right. A comment (good or bad) helps me to know what’s working and what’s not.
Thanks!
