Star Trail Photography

This is probably my favorite photo of the week. It is the combined photograph I mention in my Milky Way post Monday. On this type of setup I ran my camera with my cable release for about an hour then stitched the photographs together using Photoshop. It is a bunch of photographs but I enjoy the result! Again, its been a while since I’ve tried this type of setup. I split my captures into two photographs because I had quite a few airplanes flying over earlier in my setup. There are airplanes in the other image but they’re not quite as bright.

As a note here: the mosquitos about carried me off in this setup! I did have my Thermacell but it didn’t seem to help. If I had my flashlight or phone on at all they’d seem to flock around me!

You’ll notice the circular motion of the stars in this image, they’re rotating around the north star. If I was focused on the north star the circle would get smaller and smaller as you approach the star. I’ll try to get another one soon, we’ve had some clouds and rain in our area the past couple of days so it’s not worked out since this setup.

Thanks so much for stopping by to read my ramblings! I have a few requests:

  • Please consider subscribing if you’d like to be notified of when I post again.
  • Share with a friend.

These three items help me to know if I am doing this right. A comment (good or bad) helps me to know what’s working and what’s not.

Thanks!
