I’m trying to get a fall garden ready. One of my favorite tools in the garden is my 30’x40′ silage tarp I bought several years ago from Hoss Tools. It’s a great tool for covering a large spot of ground where you want to start a garden and let the sun get rid of the grass underneath. This works with having to mow, spray or till. It helps to get rid of the grass. Comparing plots where I use the tarp and plots where I don’t but just do a conventional tillage type preparation, the plot where I use the tarp will get grass later in the year but it is usually much later and less the the plot that I did not tarp. The toughest part of the tarp is forgetting it’s there and getting too close with the mower! I put my tarp down a few months ago on my garden for a new fall plot. When I put the tarp down it was covered in “yard grass”. I moved my tarp the other day to start working on my fall garden. You will see the results below Part of this plot I’m going to plant with fall plants and part I’m going to plant cover crop. Tomorrow’s post will be an update of some of my fall plantings so far.
I double up my tarp due to a couple worn holes I have in the middle. If I don’t double it the grass grows up through the hole only making things worse!
Thanks so much for stopping by to read my ramblings! I have a few requests:
- Please consider subscribing if you’d like to be notified of when I post again.
- Share with a friend.
These three items help me to know if I am doing this right. A comment (good or bad) helps me to know what’s working and what’s not.
Thanks!
