Let’s look at my cover crops I’ve mentioned. Right before storm Francine came through our area dropping several inches of rain I planted some cool season cover crops. I planted both some 7-top green and Austrian Winter Peas. I’ve tried the peas before but haven’t had a ton of luck so I’ll see how they do this year. I did notice on my check this morning it looks like I’ve had some good germination on the greens and I see roots developing on some of the peas I broadcast on top of the ground. I’ll see how these do in the coming days and hope to have another report next week.
(The taller plants you see in these photos are the warm season crops I planted a few weeks ago.)
Thanks so much for stopping by to read my ramblings! I have a few requests:
- Please consider subscribing if you’d like to be notified of when I post again.
- Share with a friend.
These three items help me to know if I am doing this right. A comment (good or bad) helps me to know what’s working and what’s not.
Thanks!

-Michael Gilbert
