Hold Me Fast

I want to start today with a worship song:

I’m not sure how but I’ve not heard this song until here recently. I did my typical start of a Bible search for a verse to go with this song and Googled it. I was pointed to Psalm 139.

Ok, HIS right hand will hold me but “hold me fast”? So I looked at other versions of scripture and read the same verse in the NIV. The New International Version (NIV) says, “…your right hand will hold me fast.”

There it is! He holds me FAST!

Tony Evans says, “Believer, no matter where you are, God’s right hand will hold on to you.”

Then I continued into Psalm 139 a little more and read the next few verses. Verses 11-12 say back in the ESV,

If I say, “Surely the darkness shall cover me,
    and the light about me be night,”
 even the darkness is not dark to you;
    the night is bright as the day,
    for darkness is as light with you.

My highlight from that section was the beginning of verse 12 where it says, “even the darkness is not dark to you“. I want to go back to the Tony Evans Commentary here. Tony Evans says, “No darkness is too dark to hide us from his sight. To him, the night shines like the day. So, regardless of the circumstances you face, remember God is ever present. Call on the intimate God in your day of distress, knowing that he is right by your side.”

Let’s pause on that commentary:”…God is ever present. Call on the intimate God in your day of distress, knowing that he is right by your side.”

Then I continued reading a bit more in Psalm 139. I know I should have remembered it but I did not think about the always highlighted verse 139:13.

For you formed my inward parts;
    you knitted me together in my mother’s womb.

-Psalm 139:13 (ESV)

Then, let’s keep going into verse 14:

I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made.
Wonderful are your works;
    my soul knows it very well.

-Psalm 139:14 (ESV)

Again, I read Tony Evans Commentary and this and would like to quote it again. “You, too, are a work of art that God put together by hand. You have been remarkably and wondrously made.”

I want to repeat it in case you too (like me) need the reminder:

He holds us fast!

He formed us together at the beginning of our life!

Let’s praise HIS name today for what HE’s done!

Praise HIM, He holds us fast!

I’ll go back to the commentary quoted above from Ton Evans Commentary, “Believer, no matter where you are, God’s right hand will hold on to you.” Are you a believer? Have you met the Lord and Savior Jesus Christ? If you have these verses remind us he hold us but if you haven’t accepted HIS love, let me tell you how you receive his salvation:
